Stuck between these 2 24 inchers. Which will better for ps3( when its out in 4896). Primarly use will be pc games with the odd movie. Is the benq really worth the extra bucks and delay's

I'd like to know peoples opinions on this too.
I currently have an NEC 20.1" which i love.
Looking to change mainly for the games consoles (i need component and i heard the NEC aint great for em) and also for a little more screen real estate.

Apart from these two anyone heard about the 24 inch NEC thats due?

there's limited info about the BenQ FP241W so far with only a couple of online reviews and a few users in the US with one. There's a summary guide to the model however here which might help. Main problem (and only real problem and moan so far) is the lack of 1:1 pixel mapping / aspect control from the hardware. Not really a problem for PC gaming since you can do this with software anda lot of modern games support WS res anyway. Might be an issue for the PS3, we will have to wait and see. 1080 HD content could well be stretched a little vertically from 1920 x1080 to 1920 x 1200.

The Dell has the option for 1:1 mapping, but it's a bit patchy at some settings (eg 1600 x 1200 is stretched for some reason). Also limited HD support, as it wont take 1080 content over DVI! More details about the Dell here.

Tough call I'd say!!

Regarding the proposed NEC LCD2490 model, it isnt due for release in Europe at all, see here:

In summary, both are crap.

You just gotta decide between whether u want to settle for dells banding and lack of 1080i/1080p support, or benqs foolish exclusion of 1:1 pixel mapping thus stretching all external sources to 16:10.

well i wouldn't say either was "crap"! :) Both are VERY good screens, but yes, they have some little flaws which some find annoying. Not much selection in the 24" market so far, but sure there will be more at some point

1500 is too much for me :(

I think i'm gonna have to buy the Dell, its pricing is great.

Btw Baddass, just like to say thank you to all the help you give on these forums, you're both a scholar and a gentleman. Cheers.

Yeah, the BenQ would be perfect with 1:1 pixel mapping, but seriously, did they just "forget"?

I'd love to know. I'm wondering if they did actually overlook this....it's a weird thing to leave off i think.

It seems to me there are 4 options if you want a decent PC + X360 set up with a big screen:

1. Get the BenQ FP241W and tolerate the 11% vertical stretch on the 360 (probably not that noticeable unless you're looking for it).

2. Get the Dell 2407FPW and put up with its niggles (poor component inputs, some problems with tearing using the 360 over VGA in certain scaling modes, minor banding, lack of 1080p support over DVI)

3. Get a HDTV for your 360 (the new 23-26" R7 series Samsungs can be had for under £500) and enjoy 1:1 pixel mapping at the native res of the screen. This is always going to be the best option if you have room.

4. Wait indefinitely for the perfect all-in-one PC screen

Yeah, can't believe BenQ missed out the pixel mapping options - makes all the additional inputs pretty useless. Amazing considering all the hype about the HDMI socket.

I'm wanting a widescreen for my pc and 360 too but I may well wait for the 26" NEC to come out and eventually dip below £1k. Wish I'd bought a Dell 2405 tbh, they were fantastic screens and didn't have the problems of the new Dell. HDCP is pretty useless anyway, can't see it being used for ages yet.
