Hi all

current specs are benq xl2420t

gigabyte 7970 windforce 3x

have done some googling and cant seem to find a definative answer. some are saying it cant be done but others are saying that it can by using the display port [amd hd seems to only work thru dp whereas nvidia works thru dvi-d]

my card has 2 mini dp outs.

main reason for asking is ive ordered myself a 3d vision 2 kit thinking it would be an easy plug and play wondering weither i need to send it back.

No it won't work with AMD cards at all. It's not actually a 3D monitor but it is Nvidia 3d capable (if that makes any sense) because of how it displays 3D. You will need an actual 3d capable monitor such as the Samsung's etc.
