Hi there, basically taken my CPU out as was going to RMA it as a few issues were popping up with the build when I saw that one or two CPU pins were slightly bent, not drastically but out of shape. You need to move the socket around in the light to see it as the reflections on the pins are off, I've basically bent them back to the best of my ability and accuracy and they seem ok-ish... it's an X38 DS4 motherboard, just wondering if you guys think it's going to have an effect on my system and if I should just get a new motherboard or what...

i wouldnt, you shouldnt have any problems aslong as the pins all look streight
can you post a pic of it?

yeh man, my camera is back at school, I'll post pictures of it a.s.a.p. They really don't look at all bad now, but with all the problems I've had with this system so far and r.m.a'ing I've done the issue could be down to something even as small as the pins, I'll put the pic up a.s.a.p

My advice would be to check the system with another cpu in first, you never know by bending the pin back in place you may have solved your problems, a pin short could cause any number of issuesi suppose or even a pin just not making contact with the cpu.

my mate sat on my xp2500 before, about 15 pins were at 90 degrees

i straightened them out and it worked fine, now it's in my bother's pc :)

The OPs talking about bent contacts in a 775 socket, slightly more difficult to fix/straighten me thinks.

I think it'll be ok.
When i upgraded mobo a few years ago I was removing my cooler and CPU but the thermal stuff must have just dried and bound the cooler to the CPU so it ripped it out of the socket with the lock still on.
I checked the CPU and sure enough pins were bent. :(

Anyway, I carefully put them back into shape as best i could and slotted it into the new mobo and it all worked ok.

if it was an athlon 800 or something, yes, on those if you hold the chip upside down it starts crumbling away :p

i once had an Athlon XP-2400+ that was fine. then my dad came in and saw me fiddling with it, so he glared at it and the corner cracked off :D
