Hi,

I've been looking for a 600-700W PSU for my new core i5 build (SILENCE being key) and pretty much narrowed it down to Bequiet or Enermax. I'm not really bothered too much about modular cable management.

Ive discounted enermax for the time being as ive read loads of posts on various sites about the fan going crazy after a few weeks so i'm left with the flavour of the month Be Quiet and the choice of 2 models :

Straight Power E7 600W at 90 quid (non modular)

or

Dark Power Pro 650W at about £106 (modular)

So the extra 50W and modular cables would be nice, but which is gonna be the quietest especially at 40-60% load - no reviews yet of the new E7 model of straight power.

Its even more confusing as you would think the pure power is the top model in their range but in fact the modular (cable management version) of the straight power E7 600W is actually significantly more expensive than the Dark Power Pro 650W.

anyone have any views or advice

TIA

ian

I'm not so sure about the quietest power supply, but I'd get the modular one, purely because if you do then your fans don't have to work as hard, so therefore they become quieter (theoretically at least) because they don't have unecessary cables getting in the way of airflow

hi

i have the dark power pro 600 watt in my lads pc . its expensive but very quiet and no issues

cheers

I have the 850w Dark Power Pro, and it is as quiet as a mouse, and the modular cables are excellent to.

hi,

thx for replies, cable management isnt really an issue as i have nice slots in the case innards that route the cables nicely behind the motherboard tray.

i was just wondering how the new 600W E7 straightpower is noisewise compared to the 650W dark power thats been around a while .. like i say ive pretty much decided on a bequiet and for me 600W is fine for the near future (i'm not interested in top end/dual vid cards or extreme overclocking) .. so it looks like the 650W dark power is the safe bet

Apologies for hijacking this thread, ? for Muppet, can you tell me what rpm is your sons psu is spinning at under idle and load (if its monitored), need to determine if i have a faulty dark power pro 450w..only spinning at 450-470rpm....be quiet say it may be faulty..ocuk say its ok as im not experiencing any problems...other than fan warning in Hw monitor in the bios and Asus pc probe II utility.

Cheers
Stu

Again sorry but I also have a 650w dark power and love it.

Whisper quiet, slighly longer than I expected and with excellent packaging make it a highy recommended psu.

Hi,

thanks all for this, in the absence of a review/comparison on the new straightpower E7 line the 650W dark power it is.

Funnily enough the dark power 650W is out of stock everywhere - a bit like the similar wattage straightpower was beofre they recently updated it to the straightpower E7 .. i wonder if thats the reason why its out of stock everywhere - flushing the channel before the new model comes out.

Got a Darkpower Pro, a lot quieter than my previous PSU's.

I didnt pay quite as much as the current prices but I think I would :)
My mate had a couple of issues with his in that the propreitary connector would "latch" in and would disconnect with the slightest knock, I've never had this issue with mine and think his cable is just mis moulded.

The PSU is a hefty beast but performs very well, not had any issues with mine and it's whisper quiet. My DVD Drive I would say is easily the loudest thing in my case xD
