Beryl

Billy, do you know how to set a background when you are rotating 3d cube mode. I have currently just got the black background. It doesn't seem to be in the options page, I've seen other people who have customized their background.

Yeah, Beryl is the fork from the Novel-ised XGL... and it rawks! Beats all the eye-candy I've seen in Vista so far.

It comes pre-installed and configured with SabayonLinux 3.1 if anyone wants to give it a try.

I see an option to enable the background but I don't see where you can tell it to use your own image. I'd play with it some and be more helpful, but I'm a bit too inebriated. ;)

Go Ohio State! :)

Ahh I have found it. They call it skydome. You can set the image in the filenames tab. Select the animate skydome setting, its sweet. :)

I used it for a couple of days, was pretty nice to play with as a toy. However once its novelty factor wore off I disabled it.

I find it is actually a nice practical way to manage your windows. I love the way you can arrange all your windows in a grid and select which one you want.

Same thing here. Once id played with it and messed with the settings it quicky became tireing. It was also a pain not having OpenGL when it was running.

Tried it for a while - I really liked the alt tab feature with live previews / thumbnails (for movies, stuff compiling etc). I prefer a much more simple window manager though. I was pretty impressed that I was able to play ut2004 without *any* noticeable performance difference compared to when I was using xgl (rather than aiglx) a few months before :)

Feels faster moving windows than on Vista (RC 1) too.

That ripple going off every time I moved a window would royally wind me up :p You have to know when to stop adding effects to things.
