Is there a consensus here, or does it actually not matter? I will be going with x2 in SLI and in a Phanteks Evolv ATX, so space (i.e length of the cards) MAY be an issue once the pump/res is installed. The Founders is the shortest I think, but I don't know how that stacks up against others from an OC'ing point of view as it just has the single 8-pin PCI-E, and if it's actually worth getting something else in terms of real world performance gain?

Under water their all the same pretty much .
FE was commonly used as it had blocks out first, and can be the cheaper option .
Cheaper reference design card and ref block and off you go :)

^Yep EVGA reference SC or FE. Overclock just as well. Water cooling warranty. Blocks and backplates cheaper too.

With regards to overclocks. One of mine runs fine at 2169mhz, The other at 2139mhz.

8pin is plenty enough for the cards, never had an issue with mine. More than this was never needed. Only for the likes of a power/bios mod and LN2 etc.

OK, good to know. Friend of mine keeps going on about the x2 8-pin cards and how much better they'll OC, but everything I've read suggests that isn't the case and they're all pretty much the same. Will make for a cleaner looking build also, with the PCI-E cables.

Hi,

I'm not sure if the 2x8 pin cards will be better. But, what i have found with the founders card is i can overclock to 2167. I dial that down to 2136. However, when the gpu is stressed, it cannot maintain these clocks. Most older games will stay at the 2136 clock 100% of the time. But when i play games like witcher 3 or a couple of other more demanding games the boost will step down a notch or two eg 2101, maybe even 2088. Then when i really stress the card with vr gaming it will dial down as low as ~2000mhz.
This is because it is hitting its power limit 120% is the highest the founders will go. The highest i have recorded my card needing is 142% the highest temperature on that session being 29 degrees.
