Best 140mm long modular PSU for the Lian Li PC-Q08

ooops just noticed you want a modular :(

i dont think there are any 140mm modular psu's as the extra space is needed for the modular connectors :(

I have a corsair cx 400 in a PC-Q07 which is hell of a lot smaller than the 8. Tidying them is interesting but with a bit of thought I had no problem
 
What about modifying the PSU cables? Is it possible to unsolder the ones you don't want / shorten them?

you could cut em off and heatshring the stumps i suppose but generally people don't, as times change you might regret it.

i'd just tuck em away wherever you can.
 
If you want the 3.5" drive bay in without having to shorten it/do away with it,then the 450W Silverstone Tech. Strider PSU, SST-ST45SF is a good option.
It's the highest wattage SFX PSU available to buy and will power most sff builds with ease.

From your previous threads I'm still assuming you are looking at an i3/i5 750 with something around 460 gtx for gfx.
This little beast of a psu will power it nicely including 2 hardrives and an optical drive with wattage to spare.
It isnt modular but it's pretty hassle free to tidy what comes out of it because it's so tiny.

It even has enough wattage left in it to power a watercooling loop later on if that's something else you have planned for the Q-08.

If you still want a "full size" psu most builds I've seen utilize the bottom section of the 3.5" bay (it's in 2 pieces and 1 is shorter to allow some flexibility) mounted up top and the psu flipped so the 24 pin bundle is at the bottom rather than up top where it cant foul the drive bay.
Anything over 6.5" in length gfx card wise,the lower half of the drive bay has to come out anyway to allow for a card with more grunt.
gtx 460 ~8.25" and a 5850 ~9.5"
None of that is in any way complicated even for a novice.

Done the order

Thank you for all the help and especially the tip for the Silverstone PSU. I have now placed my order and it should be arriving tomorrow (will post some photos when I have put it all together).

For storage I will get a USB3 external drive (have looked at the new LaCie drives) so I can easily take it with me.

Cannot wait to build it :)
