I have had both so know both AMD and Nvidia aren't perfect, so no allegiances here.
Best bang for the money and preferably coolest running with stock HSF (for now :p)
From the quick look I have had nvidia seems cooler and ati a tiny bit faster (560 vs 6950).
And whats the difference between GTX560 and 560Ti ?

You're looking in the same price range as me. Seems to be the choices you list plus the GTX480 or the GTX560TI OC Twin Frozr. The 560's all seem to be Ti at least on OCUK. I'm still thinking a 6950 is a good option, newer tech than a 480 and less power draw and not as stretched as an already OC'd 560.

It's a tricky one :)

There is no GTX 560, only GTX 560 Ti.

Get the 560 Ti and overclock it. Easy 1000mhz on core from what people say. Preferably MSI TF 2 or MSI Hawk TF 3.

I take it the recommendations for the 480 aren't including the SOC version? Seem to be a lot of issues with them compared with the other cards mentioned above...

I think most are FOR the SOC.
Yes, 10% may be faulty, but what can you do. They are still amazing card and for £220, unbeatable IMO

The guy said cool, the 480 is certainly not that.

6950 or 560 ti are newer tech. If you might want more than one card, it's the 6950.

Not so much the 10% that concerns me, although it seems the odd person have had more than one, it's the potential fragility of cards at that overclock. How long will they keep working at that level, guarantee are good but still a pain to have to use. Then again I suppose that's not a problem for some people.

How is 560 a fail card ?

Maxing what I want on whatever settings I want 80 FPS +.

If smoothness is fail then I present you a fail stamp, sir.

to be honest it has got its good things but to be honest again they are few.

The 6950 with its unlocking and overclocking abilities plus the 480 deals make the 560 a hard sell to me atm.

Yep will only ever be single card use, I should have said :)
480 is a bit power hungry and hot running for me, I feel.

Not sure why the 560 is fail ?
Admittedley I ve only read one review but it was tested over a variety of games and was only marginally slower than the 6950 in my res (1920x1200) and 10 deg cooler on that review.
Not sure if any of the dual fan designs run even cooler than reference by any substantial amount ?

You'l have to forgive the newb question, but other things have kept me out of thardware for a while, what can I unlock on the 6950 ?

Sounds like you know as much as you need to, 560ti or 6950. I like ati, others nvidia. There's no right answer from here on.

Actually, I was on presumption graphics cards have had a nice performance jump .... but I'm not so sure now, seems my 5850 @ 5870 clocks isn't that far behind ?
