As the title suggests, I am casual gamer looking to replace my old LG 34UM88 with another 21:9 monitor.

I don't really play twitch games anymore ( certainly not competitively on any level ) and most of my time is spent with titles like Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Fallout, Dishonored e.t.c, watching the odd movie or browsing.

I currently have an average/aging rig comprising a 4770k, 16GB and GTX 1080, but it will be updated at some point.

A friend recommended the Samsung C34F791 with another recommending the new Alienware AW3418DW which is quite a bit more expensive. I realise the Alienware has G-Sync to match my current GTX1080 and that the Samsung is Freesync based.

Which would you recommend and why, or is their another I should be considering?

If I chose the Samsung would I benefit from it's 100Hz or is that only available by hooking up an AMD card?

Thanks for the reply! I want to move up to 100Hz or above in readiness for upgrading the rest of my system.

Apparently I can add an AMD card to my system to fool the monitor into exposing the 75hz without frame skipping e.t.c, but I really can't be bothered messing around, and thought I'd get a new monitor that will just work.

Thats fair enough however i think you underestimate how much of a difference those 25hz would do however small a difference it may sound like. Good luck with your Alienware :)

A friend ( the one who recommended the Dell ) has his overclocked to 75hz and if there is a difference I really struggle to see it, and I'm not getting any younger. However, with his new Alienware AW3418DW the difference is very clear, and the G-sync performance is truly awesome.

Thanks again, and I'll update this post once I've received it and had chance to use it for a while.
