Wasn't convinced by that list myself, and be warned it seems to be more focussed on consoles. I took issue with the below for example (haven't played half the games):

-Uncharted 2 opening was OK but little more than a glorified cutscene with button pressing.
-Deus Ex first level I wasn't a massive fan of (compared to say, Hong Kong) but I know a lot do like it.
-KOTOR?!? SERIOUSLY?!?!? The spaceship level was very bland from what I recall, which to be fair isn't a great deal.

Personally, I think they've overlooked e.g:

+Unreal: very atmospheric, tells you the story through suspense, log files and sound effects. A good introduction.
+Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault: Throws you into Pearl Harbour with a ****storm all around you
+Possibly Halflife (although I do think it is a tad overrated)

Didn't go for games with massive levels encompassing many missions (e.g. GTA:VC) because that's cheating :)

Goldeneye was a good choice, most of those are pretty poor though.

Thief 2 had a good first level that was quite a bit better than kotor.

On reflection it's a silly list to make, most fist levels are game introductions anyway...

Aliens vs Predator had a good first mission with the marine, I seem to remember there only being a couple of xenomorphs in the level, however you still creep through the level very slowly, preparing yourself everytime the motion tracker got a little blip.

Not too sure on that list.

I agree on Unreal, that was and still is a fantastic first level. I'll stick my neck out and say SiN. The bank (demo) level was fantastic. You start with a helicopter and mini-gun! Then there is all the little gems like bank transfers, multiple entry routes :D Shame about the rest of the game, but that level is a stand out gem.

Yeah I never got the full game due to all the horror stories about bugs etc but I remember the SiN demo being quite impressive for the time.

From a similar time period, worst opening level of all time must surely go to Daikatana.

Agree with Siberia in Timesplitters 2, that was an incredible level. I also really enjoyed the first level Mario 64, Big Bob-Omb on the Summit.. The game world just wowed me.

That sin demo was fantastic, played that pczone demo over a few times.

Going back a couple more years, the demo they did for the first track on destruction derby 2 was the best the game had to offer *imo.

Being the first track, id go with that.

Ghost n goblins I always liked the cemetery start and not the rest so much mainly because its dam impossible

New Zealand Story maybe except I cant barely remember.

Are we allowed to say Crysis maybe

I personally loved the intro to Kotor...but most of the games on there I don't agree with.

Dead Space 1 intro was pretty cool too.

Aliens vs Predator had a good first mission with the marine, I seem to remember there only being a couple of xenomorphs in the level, however you still creep through the level very slowly, preparing yourself everytime the motion tracker got a little blip.

First time I played that in the dark I went "the hell with that" then turned the pc off lol

are you on smack?

The start of half life is terrible, its a 5 minute train ride . SNORE FEST.

Play blood 2 if you want a good opening train level!

A good introduction, sets the scene to the game, just cause you're a troll, i wont go into any serious argument.

 Thought you get get me, huh? Nope.
