i think i might as well upgrade (why the hell not ;) )
at the moment i have a 3000+ clocked at 277x10

the memory i have is 1gig of geil pc4000 ultra platinum - it will do 250mhz at 2.5,4,4,7 but its at ~230mhz as its on a divider and i'm happy with its performance, i just need more.
i liked the fact that it was ddr500 as it gave me lots of room for overclocking without bothering about changing the settings too much.

so what do you think would be the best memory for me to get (2gig)??
theres a lot of choice so some recommendations would be most welcome (not too expensive though - don't go nuts).

thanks a lot

Don't think you can go wrong with:

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC)

Price: £139.95 (£164.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

i am a bit doubtful about pc3200 ram - wouldn't that give me less room to overclock and mean i have to use a higher divider??

Unless you want to spend £230 you don't have much of an option. Both of these kits will overclock better, but will cost a bit more.

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000 Dual Channel Platinum Series EB-DDR CAS3 (OCZ5002048EBPE-K) (MY-058-OC)

Mushkin 2GB DDR XP4000 Redline Extreme Performance Dual Channel Kit (2x1GB) (991493) (MY-002-MK)

I don't know enough about the 2GB kits, as I'm still on 1GB but from what I've read these are some of the best kits at the moment.

what about the corsair thats on offer? will the pc4000 cas3 really be much slower than the cas2 if i'm overclocking the memory anyway?

anybody got this ram in an amd64 setup?

cheers

I've got some Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (£140.94) currently running at 490mhz 2.5-3-3-6 so I'd say it was a good clocker!

As has been said before on other threads A64 platform thrives on tight timings so you will probably get less frames per second in games and benchies going to 2 gig , i noticed this when i went from samsung tccd chips at 2225 to mushkin redline at 3328 even though it is at ddr500 as compared to ddr420 . one improvement it is smoother , hope this helps

sooo many choices, but these sound good, i had no idea pc3200 ram could clock so high!

Andy is correct. Buy RAM with tight timings as opposed to higher Mhz. Dividers don't cause even more than a marginal slowdown when the RAM is paired with an Athlon 64. I know it's tempting to get fancy RAM with bigger numbers, but it's all about the timings :) Lower CAS is better than higher DDR when it comes to real world performance with Athlon 64s.

i've just had another thought - my motherboards max ram voltage is 2.8v in the bios and the board under volts anyway so thats closer to 2.7 - 2.75v so will that make a difference?
the ocz ram mostly wants 2.8v so that doesn't look very promising :(
