Evening all,

I have a pretty old system which I use generally to play older games (GTAv is the newest title I have). It’s hooked up to a 1080p tv in my lounge and used to run with an AMD HD7850 that I got from OcUK for £90 back in about 2013-2014.

Sadly that died and I’m now back on a HD5770

I’m looking for a 2nd hand buy recommendation for about £75-100 Sadly I’m not eligible for the MM, and looking on the bay, value for money looks in the same state as the new market.

I also reckon it would be sensible to get a 4Gb card, although interested to hear if people think 3Gb would be ok?

Oh, BTW my PSU is a 500w Tagan. So I have to be a bit careful with efficiency.

What do peeps recommend? Not fussed whether AMD or NV.

Have at it!

I've seen some 780 Non Ti's go for £100 on the Bay very rare though, shame about the PSU, I can see a Gigabyte 7970 on fleebay for £109 which isn't a bad price but again your power supply may not be up to the job haven't heard of Tagan? if you want to play it safe look at a GTX 1050 which will be an improvement over your 7850 anyway and will be miles ahead of the 5770

Cheers Tommy

From a quick google at the power draw it looks like the 780 draws about 200w under load which may be a bit of a risk, whilst the 7970 only slightly less at around 180w. I think my 7850 drew about 130w.

I think the 1050ti is a good shout, but I suppose i’m A bit loath to spend over £100 on a card that seems to be a good 2 grades (in relative terms) lower than my £90 got me 4 years ago.

I guess the 7850 was a bit of a budget champion back then, like the 5770 was when I got that. Has there not been a real budget champion card in that £100 price bracket since?

Lol! I’m not surprised you might not have heard of tagan before. I reckon mine must be about 12 years old at least!!! They were the mutts nuts at the time but were short lived because they didn’t charge enough for them. Hard to believe a 12 year old PSU came with all the 6 pin and 8 pins GFX connectors we use now.

You would probably get a 7950 for £50 and it would be a lot faster than your old 7850.

3gb would make no difference on a card that speed you going to have turn settings down anyway.

gtx 760, be one of the best you will find that will comfortably work with your psu and more modern, what processor do you have?

GTX 970.

There's a few decent ones floating around the £100 budget on the well known auction site (including an OC cooler edition).

You'll need to check your power though.
