Best 5.1 Headset for pc ??

I was actually interested to see how the Psycho Audio headset would turn out, as it uses a different approach to most 'real 5.1' headsets. They put the drivers in the headband and fed the sound through tubes to the ears. On paper, I thought they might just do a decent job.

A few reviews like this one have put me off ever seeking them out, particularly for the silly money they're asking:http://hardocp.com/article/2010/05/11/psyko_51_pc_gaming_headset_review/
I have found them for £100

Wow thanx all really helping here just a few more questions what about the Roccat Kave?? and please could someone suggest another pc to xbxo 5.1 converter ?

I have found them for £100

From reviews I've read, I wouldn't buy them at all.

All the Dolby Headphone mini receivers (Astro, SU-DH1, DSS) we've mentioned are designed to be used with stereo headphones and are probably the best reasonably priced option here.

Angel-Rex - I've not tried Sony's headphone virtualisation.

OK thanx so maybe I have headset sorted down to either the ones you mentioned, roccat kave and megaladom but I dunno what converter should I buy to convert from pc headset to work with xbox 5.1

Let me just stir up the nest and add the Corsair HS1, you don't need a soundcard or amp, and the sound from Dolby Headphone is really very good

Nope, you are not right. You are right in the fact that they have multiple drivers, and that others like Logitech G35, Sennheiser PC163D have 1 driver in each cup and use virtual surround sound. However, that doesn't make the Kave's and others like them true 5.1. If you think they are, I suggest you go and read what true 5.1 is.

If you prefer the Kave's because they use multiple drivers, that's fine, to each his own. To say they are true 5.1, is just buying into the marketing BS. Going by that logic, people would believe an iPod dock offers audiophile quality if the manufacturers slapped it on the packaging.

The kave are true 5.1, 3 speakers in each cup
Ok, you opened that can of worms then...

5.1 is five speakers and one subwoofer in a specific layout around the listener. Each speaker is at least a few metres from the listener. With 5.1, each speaker is heard by both ears. The Kaves are 3 general drivers and one woofer (not really subwoofer at all) strapped to each ear.

Can you tell me what is wrong with this picture?

Also, how many ears do you have?

Everything I've heard is that 3d emulation is actually better than 5.1 headsets.

^^^
This really - although it depends which emulation or virtualisation technique.

Bottom line is current designs for multi-driver 5.1 headsets are incapable of accurately replicating 5.1 speakers. Virtualisation with stereo headphones can be incredibly close.

If you want Dolby Headphone with the xbox 360 the cheapest currently available options are the SU-DH1 or Thrustmaster DSS.

There are a few older Dolby Headphone sets that take 5.1 optical but none still available that I am aware of.

Sharkoon X-Tactics are a multi-driver 5.1 set that take Optical in but they have all the inherent flaws of multi-driver sets so I wouldn't recommend them.
