Best 7" tablet right now?

If you're only interested in Android, then if you don't want 3G, get the Nexus 7. If you do want 3G then probably the Samsung.

If you're open-minded about Android/iOS, then wait a few weeks as the iPad Mini will probably be announced.

Is the mini really going to happen?

There have been various "leaks" with pictures of cases made by Chinese firms and there are a few photos of the back of new device.

I wouldn't be surprised if they release one as the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire have been selling well, most likely due to the price and improved build quality/spec compared with the previous budget tablets.

Jobs said no to a 7" tablet but corporations are fickle in the hunt for profit :D

Currently its the Nexus 7 16gb (assuming you have a vaguely modern phone that's capable of tethering) .
Would personally wait and see what the iPad mini turns out to be - too many roumers for it not to exist

Really boils down to if you want Android or iOS and if you want it now or wait.

Sent from my Nexus 7 ;-)

This. Go play with an ipad, see if you can live with it.

imho the nexus 7 wins because of its flexibility, for example you can plug in flash drives (no root needed). Some guys over on XDA are getting USB TV tuners working on them... more to come no doubt.

I'd be amazed if an ipad mini was near £200 - Apple make good profit on their hardware and we already know Asus/Google are just about breaking even on the nexus 7. £250+ I reckon.

After looking around (online, not physically) I went with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, nothing really came close, especially if you want to skype and also take pictures on the go. The rear camera is when you want to show something on skype and need to see the screen for instance.

If I didn't need the rear camera, I probably would have gone for the Nexus 7.

In the budget category.. if you don't need Android, and not needing many apps, then look at the Playbook: 16/32/64GB is only £109/119/£129.

Maybe 200 300 400 for 16 32 and 64 gb models :p

Nexus 7 is a brilliant priced tab. Samsungs equivalent are nicer but dearer. I am a massive fan of amoled displays. I love colour's and the deep black they give. Anything else just looks washed out to me.

Which tab would you recommend for someone who wants to browse, read, and more importantly use it for video?

The Galaxy seems to only have a 1024x600 screen.

The Kindle Fire HD seems to be too locked down to Amazon

The Nexus 7 doesn't have HDMI and can't be connected to a TV
