I am going to be buying a new PSU and I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on what to buy. My budget is currently about 500 and I want the best possible PSU I can get so, knock me out with your suggestions and I will send you cookies!!

If I was looking for a new psu right now I would be looking at the Seasonic Focus plus series in either 80+ Gold or Platinum. Both versions have a single 12v rail of 744w, are fully modular and have a 10 year warranty. There is a review of the 750w gold here. No reviews for the 750w platinum but I expect it to be inline with the gold series. There is a review of the 550w platinum here to give you a idea of how they perform.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

IMO, you are paying an extra £50 for the branding of "Titanium" and at this price I'd expect it least 85% or even 90% .

Mind you.. 12yr warranty and the specs on noise look impressive.. I doubt you'd need another PSU in that time..
so do well :)

Prime series actually some rather heavy duty sizing of components.

Like primary capacitance being IIRC around 40% bigger than usually, and those 400V caps aren't cheap.
Which is why it has nearly double the ATX spec requirement 30+ ms hold up time and not minding if there's whole AC cycle missing. (could throw in half cycle/wave for extra)
Also that efficiency was achieved for big part through component oversizing which keeps load and losses on components smaller.

I went with this after, the reviews on it make it sound like the perfect PSU for me
