BEST 7950?

Cheapest one.

Actually this one is on offer: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-098-GI&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673

I have the 7970 version of http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-008-VX&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673 and it's a good price, the cooler isn't loud but not saying it's silent at 70c or so.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-049-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673 Bundled games makes this one even cheaper really. I like the reference cooling.

The HIS one is my pick!

whats his like reliability wise? oc'ing and rma's?
was going to get the 7870 hawk but can get the 7950 for £10 more would be crazy not to
could i run a 7950 on a ocz 650w power supply?
i also have a antec 300 case would these cards fit?

Check out the dimensions of the card against your case but im sure itll b fine, 650w is more than enough to power it even when OCd :)

or is this just overkill as i only play at 1920x1080 on one screen?
it doesnt tell you the dimensions unfortuantely on the advert

I play @ 1080p with a 7950 so I don't think it is overkill.

It is probably more then needed but it plays my main game nice (BF3) so suits me.

HIS as a company has a pretty bad RMA process, but since OCUK handle the RMA process for HIS cards, even in the 2nd year, you should be fine. 650W is plenty for a 7950- I'm running a 7950 with a 650W PSU myself :)

I've been getting on great with my HIS BOOST. I can hear it when gaming but it's not intrusive and I have to listen for it, gaming at a reasonable volume or open backed headphones and it's inaudible. I have a very quiet pc. All my fans are fan controlled down to barely turning and I doubt many would hear the IceQ over their case cooling.

I'll say without hesitation that it's the best cooler you can get on a 79xx card without going aftermarket. Quiet, cool and chucks all the air out of the back. It's really big, 3 slots deep at the bum and has some serious breadth and heft. It's light years ahead of the stock blower coolers.

If I had to pick fault, it's not the smallest cooler and it's only got a 2 year warranty, but with OcUk handling it, I'm happy. 2 years and I'll be moving on to a new card. Resale value from remaining warranty doesn't really factor into a popular auction site sale, they go for what they go for.

i will be getting it in two weeks. i have some money sitting but i dont wana leave my self skint. i like the gigabyte gpu and the msi. will msi be releasing a power or hawk edition?

Hi

Im looking at the msi 7950 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-148-MS&tool=3

which is 20 quid cheaper than the gigabyte.

Any comments on the msi? i would like to oc for sure :)

The MSI is a good card (I have one).

Inaudible at idle and under load I have a headset on so.......................
Temps are not bad, at 1100/1500 oc I hit 72 degrees running Heaven so pretty much full load (gaming around 65/66 degrees).
Overclocks better than my Powercolor PCS+ 7950 did too.

If they were the same price I would go for the Gigabyte but doubt it is 20 quid better tbh.

i have always liked the look of msi cards.

i cant wait to get my hands on a card to start gaming.

when i get my card, where can i get all these programs such as software.

sorry such a noob when it comes to this. its my first gaming pc.

The MSI TF3 comes with utilities (Afterburner etc) on the driver disc too so good to go :)

I also have the MSi card, and it is a good card. The Windforce is a slightly better cooler, but I personally much prefer the look of the TF3 cooler to the Windforce, the TF3 is a full metal cover so looks very nice in my case. Not that the TF3 is a bad cooler by any means- it is much better than any reference one.

In terms of software, it'll come on the disk, but I would recommend going to the websites to get the latest versions. Go to the AMD website for display drivers and get the latest catalyst drivers (12.8 atm). Then go on the MSi afterburner page and download the latest version. Those are the only things you need to get set with your new card- and ready for some overclocking!
