I need an 8+ port managed switch that can support at least one PoE connection and at least two 10 Gbe connections. I'm on a budget so interested in the most cost effective product. Any suggestions?

It's about time I allowed 10 Gbe access to my NAS box from my other devices.

The MikroTik CSS610-8G-2S+IN does that except for the PoE requirement, but it's very cheap. The Qnap QSW-M2116P-2T2S does everything you want but at a significantly higher cost.

I've also recently been looking for a new 10G capable sw. itch, but with 10 ports instead of 8.

The Zyxel XGS1250-12 seemed to be good value to me for the number of 1G ports and 3x 10Gbe connections and 1x 10G SPF+ connection for about £240. It doesn't do PoE however but if you only needed one port you could use a PoE injector which are widely available for not much money. If you can live without the management functions, then the XGS1010-12 is available for about £120.

I was looking for a switch which allowed both port security (restricting a port to a specific MAC address), and time based access to effectively disable some ports at specific times of the day, and the 1250-12 doesn't have this level of configurability. I'd need to use their XS1930-10 instead which does have these functions. However it's about twice the price as all ports are 10G capable which puts it on a par pricewise with some Netgear 10G switches, and it's a bit more than I was willing to pay.

I'm currently trawling through the Netgear, Microtik and QNAP options to find the best solution and value for money.

There are very few 10GbE PoE switches as the use-case is limited at the moment. We deploy the Ubiquiti UniFi USW-XG-6 which has 4 x 802.11bt PoE++ 10GBaseT ports and two SFP+ ports. That’s £500. For similar money (£650) you get the UniFi Enterprise 24 PoE switch which has 24 x 2.5GBaseT 802.11af PoE ports and 2x SFP+ ports. For pure 10GbE installs we currently deploy one or more of the UniFi Enterprise XG 24 which has 24 x 10GBaseT ports and two SFP+ ports (£1100).

10GbE is still stupidly expensive and to get exactly what you specified in the OP is not going to be cheap.

We only use the USW-XG-6 with the UniFi UAP-XG because it’s the only access point that has a 10GbE PoE uplink. And in high density areas we can see the 10GbE link being used (UAP-XG has two 4x4 5GHz access points inside it).
