Currently my home network setup consists of;

Netgear DG843G router with DGTeam firmware (Connected to O2 ADSL2)
Netgear FS105 10/100 Switch
Netgear GS105 10/100/1000 Switch
Netgear WG602 wireless access point

HTPC with GigE wired to GS105
Fileserver with GigE wired to GS105
MainPC with GigE wired to WG602 (Then wireless connection to DG843G)
Laptop with 54Mbps wireless connection to DG843G
Notebook with 54Mbps wireless connection to DG843G
And a few other devices such as TV connected to GS105 for firmware updates etc.

You may ask why I am have the FS105 in there, but that is where my problem comes in. Recently is seems like the DG843G is starting to pack up. I have been getting loads of network problems with lost packets and dropouts. Turns out it is the ports on the DG843G that are unable to do 1Gbps. I tried all combinations and solutions, but the only thing I got working was to wire the switches up like;

Internet>DG843G>FS105>GS105>Wired clients

So that the FS105 is acting as a sort of limiter. Certainly not the ideal situation by any means, but it sort of works. But I want a better solution, ie getting some new kit. So what recommendations do people have? Ideally I would like kit to be rack-mountable if possible. I have been considering HP Procurve switches (Probably 16 or 24 port for future expansion) What do people think of these? Do they support teaming? Also are there any suggestion for a ADSL2 modem/router/firewall/wireless access point?

I did consider building my own bu combining a ADSL2 PCI-E card, Several 4 port NICs wireless cards and a router OS. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else tried it? One benefit would be that I could customize it to my requirement, and if say the wireless needed upgrading, I would just drop in a new card.

Basically, what is the best setup I can get within a sensible price range (I am willing to pay for decent or pro kit, but not spend £thousands on overkill kit.)?

ummm this router does not do 1Gbps,seems to imply to me that you thought it used to :confused:
My network works but is a bit heath robinsonish
DG834GT-8port tplink GB switch-netgear 5 port GB switch-tplink 5port 10/100 switch
GB pcs are connected to the GB switches and all others(tv,pvr`s and media players)to the 10/100 switch
Cheap as chips solution :)

Weird, I could swear it was a gigabit switch/router. :confused: :o But yeah, you are right, it is only 10/100. I wonder when I connect it to the GS105 it tries to force it to 1Gbps which is why it fails/gets loads of dropouts (ping fails like 75% of the time). Whatever the cause, connecting the router directly to the GS105 causes major problems. Running it through the FS105, seems to force it to work. Maybe it is the GS105 switch that is at fault here?
