The Following...

I Currently have a 512/256k connection, not great but at least its 1:1 ratio, will be upgrading this soon to 2mb/1mb in the not too distant future (Jan).

My problem is the following, I live in a colonial house with rather thick walls, and even though my PC can see the router (its about 5-6m away) signals aren't exactly strong. Additionally, ive now got a need to transfer files to 2 other PC's/Laptops at home.

Currently got a Belkin wireless router which I will be giving to a mate of mine.

Suggestions then for:

  • Wireless ADSL router with good transmission strength
  • highest internal transfer speeds possible
  • potentially customiseable (tomato?)

Looking at £60 max, dont mind second hand suggestions...

Apparently Wireless-N has far better range than the G standard. If Range is your thing then Wireless-N router and NIC adaptor for your PC is the way to go.

Alternatively, (and I went this route) I installed a couple of Solwise 200Meg Homeplug modules and used the mains as a network transport. Far faster than Wireless G and not subject to dropouts and interference.
