hi,

i am migrating to Be* and i have been looking at getting a new router as it looks like my DG834G v2 doesnt do ADSL2+ so do i get a DG834G v3 or go for a GT ?

hello Mattyfez,

i know i get one with Be* but i have been reading a lot of bad things about it and most users seem to dump it and get something else.

Think thats the same as mine 780wl....not had a prob with it apart from cant get wireless to work but ive not really tried tbh as I dont use wireless.

well i have had a bit of a result as i just remembered that a mate of mine gave me a sky router some time ago which i forgot about because i couldn't be bothered to muck about with flashing it but today i have and now i am using a DG834GT with the ubergt firmware so i will see how i get on with it.:D

I've just signed up with Be.

I was previously using Nildram with a DG834G router. Are you guys saying that I should dump the "BeBox" speedtouch modem that was bundled with Be and use my old DG834G instead?

How difficult is this to do, is it literally a case of just getting the relevant settings from Be and punching them into the DG834G, or is it more complicated than that?

from what i understand you just log into your netgear router and change the folling

Set Basic Settings to no login

ADSL settings to LLC based multiplexing and vpi/vci to 0,101

i haven't done it myself as i don't have Be* yet but this was post on the Be* forums, let me know if it works.

I had a very quick go this morning at setting up the port forwarding on utorrent using the game and application sharing bit, but it made no sense to me (coming from using a DG834G).

I had a look on portforwarding.com and they don't even have a listing for any speedtouch routers!

Do you know how to do the port forwarding on BeBox?

There's about 20 Speedtouch routers on there - http://www.portforward.com/english/...atel/Speedtouch780v6/Speedtouch780v6index.htm

Ahhh, I was looking under "S" for speedtouch.

No wonder I couldn't find them.

With hindsight I should have just done CTRL-f for "speedtouch".

OK cheers for that, will give it a try tonight.

Question for OP - What bad things have you heard about the "BeBox" speedtouch router?

(NB - I've already had problems with one of my laptops refusing to connect to the internet through it...)

half the be routers seem to constantly reboot when using wireless connections as the chipset gets very hot. mine got insanely hot and rebooted every single time the laptop downstairs got turned on and was connected to the net for more than like 20 mins, only browsing, was ridiculous.

got the netgear because theres nothing else.

its a shame that Be* make there forums completely unaccessable unless you join because there was plenty in there about drayteks not working well, but other forums next to no info. so i went from the single best brand of router you can get to Be* and their crap router, i've lost a lot of functionality you need with a brother who simply keeps torrents on all the time uploading at stupid speeds killing my connection and making gaming a pain. draytek i can limit speed per port, per ip, max connections open aswell as max up and download speeds, its freaking brilliant. can't believe be* have to use a "non adsl2+" standard setup, because they simply don't need to. its one setting, which really doesn't seem to affect anything that they simply won't change. unfortunately most routers are made just straight to the adsl2+ spec. means the draytek can do about 8mb down max, where my connection can do 16mb/s with ease, possibly more :(

A lot of people, myself included, put the bebox (speed touch) upside down, as for some daft reason the vents are on the bottom.

This helps keep it from overheating and needing a re-set.

that said, the bebox is fine if your just wanting a straight forward ethernet connection, I run my pc and the girlfriends laptop from it with no problems.

OK well I think I'm going to switch over the the DG834G I have lying about.

It makes sense for me because:

a) I have all of my port forwarding already configured on it

b) Used it for 2-3 years, so am very comfortable with how to configure it

Plus the Netgear wireless (I find) has a stronger and more stable signal..

I would rather lose a bit of download sync and have solid wireless as I work from home a lot on my laptop so that more important to me.

Nothing brilliant about it either, its free therefore cost effective for the company.

It's not free at all.. It's leased to the customer and returned afterwards.

As for it not being brilliant as long as it does the job that's fine by me.
