Best affordable VR Headset for sim racing ?

I am looking at the Meta Quest 3 and the HP Reverb G2 which are both in a similar price range.

Does anyone have any experience with both of these ? ideally in sims like iRacing, ACC, Assetto Corsa etc
The G2 has the advantage of display port connection to your pc so no image compression, but I don't notice compression on the Q3 (some people do though). The Quest 3 has better lenses which produce a better display i.e. clarity across more of the view and greater fov. The G2 has better audio but the Quest 3's audio is pretty good. The G2 is quite old tech wise now, the Q3 is new. At some point you might want to play non-sim games and if so the Q3 is the better option for this. Meta's software is imo better than the G2's software. I'd go for the Quest 3. Edit: i've owned both.

I've experienced all headsets in iracing....

Pico neo 3 link available brand new for £230

Dedicated display port
Big sweetspot
Comfortable, more so with counterweights
Decent fov especially with aftermarket facecover
Good colours, bright panel, no mura
Can run on modest spec pc, or supersample for really great sharp image

Out of all my headsets I've spent many more hours simracing in this than any of the others

Given the choice between the quest3 or reverb, and depending on pc specs, I'd go quest3....if you get a good one but you'll need the silicone mask and different strap.

It's really difficult to recommend the g2 now to be honest. If at any point you fancy beat saber, mini golf or wanting to walk around cable free playing half life alyx get the quest.

Thanks for the response guys. Think i am going to go for the Meta Quest 3. In terms of accessories is there anything i need beside the silicone mask and elite strap ? I see people talk about a link cable (no idea what that even is lol) ? Do i need one of them as well ?

The link cable is for linking your pc to your quest 3 so that you can play "pcvr" games (vr games running on your pc) in your quest 3, so things like assetto corsa on steam, you are basically streaming the games from your pc to your quest 3 via the link cable. You don't need 1, you can play wirelessly if you have a 1GB ethernet cable from your pc to your router and your router can do 5GHz or better wifi (your quest will be on this band and should be the only device on it). Cable has it's advantages/disadvantages. If you do buy u don't really need the expensive Meta link cable, i use an Anker 5m cable from Amazon iirc cost £15. But any old USB cable won't do, needs to be long enough and minimum USB 3.0. Amazon also has a Q3 silicon facial cover for £10 that fits fine, I bought 1 the other day.

I don't know if you've only tried the G2 v1, but on my v2 my tracking is near perfect. I can T-pose or have my hands straight up 12 o'clock and have it track my wrist movements perfectly. For sim racing the G2 visuals are fantastic. Much better than any wireless headset I owned (Quest Pro and Pico4)

No, I only had the G2 but couldn't live with the sweetspot. You are right though, you simply can't underestimate the importance of an uncompressed displayport image.
I think for me, I'd still pick quest 3 if the choice was only between those two.

Just got myself a Pico Neo 3 Link for £190 after my long serving Odyssey+ died - sad moment!

Got to say, I'm impressed with the Neo. Only got it as a stop gap but think I might keep using it for a while. Obviously a step up from the Odyssey+ in terms of resolution and performs great when wired. Have yet to try out standalone - and will be my first time doing so in any headset...

Only downside, and it's quite a prominent one, are the black levels. I mainly sim race - blacks are fine in normal day running but night running is such a compromise compared to the OLED Odyssey+. If I was playing a space sim or doing a lot of night based flight sim'ing, it would be a deal breaker I think.

Current alternative options are the Crystal Light with local dimming (I don't think I would buy Pimax any time soon having said that!) and PSVR2 when the dongle is available - quite tempted by that but shame some of the key features are missing on PC. Otherwise, it would be a case of waiting to see what gets released in the future.

Yep, it's brilliant isn't it. Not many people tried one which is a shame.
