Money is no real object for this as afternoon teas are generally not hugely expensive, but thinking of treating the Mrs to a nice little afternoon tea session as she is always banging on about wanting to go somewhere.

My first instinct was for the Champagne Afternoon Tea at Slatterys in Whitefield, but I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend me any more.

I've heard of Patisserie Valerie but not heard from anyone who has been, and also that Harvey Nichols do an afternoon tea as well.

Anyone any experience of any of those, or from anywhere else in Manchester?

You're pretty spoilt for choice around Manchester to be honest.

Slatterys is alright; my mum loves it, but I wasn't particularly blown away when I went.

Patisserie Valerie is similar - pretty good, nothing ground breaking through, and a little overpriced (even considering money being no object).

If you really wanna blow her away, I'd consider heading up into the Northern Quarter and trying one of the places there.

Teacup or Home Sweet Home would be the obvious choices if you want something special (I'd probably opt for Teacup). You might also wanna consider Soup Kitchen which is meant to be nice (I've never been), but I don't know if they do Afternoon Tea. There's also a possibility in Northern Tea Power, which does really nice tea, coffee and cakes, but is a bit hipster-ish.

There's loads more. I'd really recommend Teacup though, my girlfriend loves it in there.

The Midland Hotel also used to do a very nice traditional afternoon tea but it's been a few years since i last tried it when staying there for work.

Could always see if the Lowry hotel does anything as well if its the more trad thing you want.

Me and the Mrs went to Patisserie Valerie for breakfast a month ago and I was very underwhelmed. We had Eggs Benedict which was overly salty and the egg was overcooked. The tea was also rubbish.

I'm a sucker for Betty's tearoom in York, we usually head up there and make a day of it instead.

Slatterys i thought had the best tasting cakes.
Hilton Hotel for the experience of having afternoon tea on the 22nd floor with 360 degree view of manchester.
Midland was a very traditional affair.

all 3 were good. depends what you are wanting i suppose
