Best AGP card for an old NForce2 board?

I have an old Nforce2/XP2600+ system and want to upgrade the card from an X800pro, 2 questions;

A) Is it worth it?
2) What are my options?

I'm well out of touch with hardware, any advice appreciated.

X1950Pro AGP is prolly your best bet. Can be had for pretty cheap.

Don't bother with the 3850 AGP, while it is a better card you'd be bottlenecked by the CPU and it isn't worth shelling out double the cost of the 1950Pro for one.

Probably not worth it (personal opinion based on no fact whatsoever).

I know the ATI 3870/3850 were available with an AGP bus, it's just going to be a matter of finding one now that the 4xxx series are everywhere.

As your not going Vista ( I assume) and dont need DX10 the x1950 will fill the bill, the 3000 series did not add much to DX9 performance and would probably cost more

various 6800's are about as well but slower and cheaper

I didn't even think to consider nvidia, I know some of the 7xxx series had AGP variants and performance isn't too bad.

get a 6800 gt of the bay and be happy with that

your going to be xtremely cpu limited with anything faster so it would be pointless, you will not see any difference !!!

Currently running an Abit NF7 (Nforce2) with a XP3000+. Got this paired with a Geforce 7600GT 256Mb AGP.

Ideal card if you can find one as they are quite good performance wise but have low heat output and don't need a silly spec PSU unlike the ATI X1950's.

Should be able to pick up a 7600GT AGP quite cheaply now I would have thought.

never got cpu limited with my old agp system right up to a x1850pro, faster gfx=faster games, 6800 will be good and a x1950pro will be better.
