 Does anyone know what the best AGP card is for around £100?

I'm looking for stability, not going to overclock, very good gaming quality but more importantly Excellent video playback.

I have looked at a 7800GS 512MB but over budget.

Been looking at a 6600GT but have read they are not stable.

Not really too concerned if ATI or Nvidia.

I have 2 TFT screens at 1280 x 1024.

Thanks in advance :)

6600GT's are excellent cards. I have'nt heard of many problems with these at all. You should be able to get one for around £89 or so. There are also 6800XT's for around £100, ATI X800 RX for around £92.48. X800GTO's can be had for around that price too. I saw a XFX 7600GS 512mb on AGP today somewhere for around £100 it may have been less. Did'nt even know that there was an agp 7600 series. I had to check XFX's website to double check and sure enough there it was. Runs a lot slower than the pci-e equivalent though. See it on XFX's website here. Third one up from the bottom.

Second hand you should easily be able to get a 256mb 6600GT, X800Pro or even an XT/XL, maybe even a 6800GS or even a GT as well all for around £100.

Mine and a friends 6600GT both died, screen went fuzzy if you tried to play any games, apparently a known issue with them according to nVidia forums.

Seen one die in that way, managed to get refund within 10 days from competitor so was not too unhappy.

6800 GT is still a good card and I've seen AGP ones new for around £100. The 16 pipes means it's still a good performer today and it can be clocked to Ultra speeds. Ps3.0 too.

thanks for the replies

I have cornered it down to two:

Gainward GF 6600GT PP Ultra 1980 256MB DDR3
or
Sapphire ATI Radeon X800GTO 256MB DDR3

any ideas?

are we talking new cards or old cards?

i've been using a 6600GT for about 2 years now in one of the machines in the house and have never had any problems with it.

said machine was the main pc in the house and got heavy gaming and overclocking done on it without breaking a sweat
its not used as much as it was, but still handles Black & White 2, UT2004 and pretty much anything released within the last year easily.

Had mine about a year ago.

X800 gto looks good for my mates old system.
Its a pity theres no big offers on agp from ocuk.I remember a month or 2 ago didn`t pcie x800gto go for £45?,6800s for about 90, the 6800gs were about 135,now they`re 165

Have you considered an x850xt?

Very clockable - mine manages 621 on the core and 596 on the memory. That's up from 520/540!

She manages very playable framerates in Oblivion (even outside!) at 1380x1024.

May find one close to £100 but you may have to stretch your budget! ;)

Probably the best you can buy fro the money if your hearts not set on SM3 and HDR!
