WHats the best agp card and best value for money i have 9600 128 mb radion want something considerably better without having to pay over the odds.

Cheers

INFECTION

Depends if you want new or second hand. I found the difference between my 9800pro to an x850xt huge and they can be had for < £100 used. 7600's are also worth a look at and ati's 1950pro is due out next month and will be the best agp card available and be priced at £170.

Assuming rest of your system is up to it (CPU etc) 7600 GT would be a nice upgrade but they are a little pricey for what they are (on AGP that is).

BEAR WITH ME

I would assume that you have DDR ram in your MOBO?

SOOOOO the choice for you my friend would be paying over the odds for a decent AGPX8 slot graphics card such as the 7800gs for like £180 plus (which would be a nice upgrade but still leaving the rest of you're rig in the past and postpoaning the inevitable). OR you could do this get a brand new AMD64 3200 CPU for £40 (stock 2ghz can overclock it easily to 2.7ghz ie very fast) a pci-e motherboard for £60 quid (ULTRA D or lanparty infinity or something along those lines) and a pci-e graphics card like the 7900gs for £110 or the 7600gt which can be picked up for £80 and trust this is a cracking lil card.

These upgrades would give u a far bigger speed increase and be a far more worth while investment. Giving u a very nice gaming rig indeed.

of course money is the main issue and u may choose to try and get a modest agpx8 graphics card off dodge auctionsite for like £60-80 but I would not really recommend it but then again we'll just have to see.

The reason new gear has became far cheaper is cos of the crazy price wars from amd due to intels new cpu's (I mean in most cases AMD has slashed prices by half) and ati and nvidia are too at it again with the mid range card market where the best bang for buck has always been.

PCI-E is natively faster and is now CONSIDERABLY cheaper

Should have a molex connector, wouldnt you think.
By definition a PCIE power connector is for PCIE cards!?

Then why, pray, does the Geforce 7800GS+ come with a PCI-E connector? Admittedly, probably because it's something Gainward did by themselves without any input from Nvidia, but it still begs the question as to whether the AGP slot/molex can deliver the required juice for these ultra-high end parts. Considering the 1950Pro is - despite being less of a hog than the 1900XTX - more power-hungry than the equivalent Geforce 7900GT, it's going to be a difficult call.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I'd assume the x1950 AGP would come with a PCI-E type connector, which has an adapter that splits off into two molex connectors.

Probably to avoid having two molex ports on the card ala the 6800 Ultra.

Then I could be wrong. :p

The X1950 seems to be slightly better than the 7900GT, which is no slouch, especially for AGP.
