Best Air cooler for £40?

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my Arctic Freezer Pro 7 because it's the only thing I can still hear in my rig and I want to overclock my CPU.

I notice there are LOADS of coolers for around the £40 mark so I'm after a decent recommendation.

My primary concern is silence. I already get good temps when OC'd on this cooler, but I don't want to hear it.

thanks,

G

I have a Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 case.

/edit Maximum installation height of CPU coolers 185 mm

Wide case body allows 185 mm tall CPU coolers

Due to the generous width of the Deep Silence 1, it can accommodate CPU coolers up to 185mm tall meaning virtually any CPU cooler currently available will be compatible.

I have a spare Gentle Typhoon, could I put it in push pull on the Macho? Does it comes with additional mounting brackets for a 2nd fan?

Thanks,

G

Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 is a nice case. Would be interested in your thoughts about it.

It has 185mm CPU clearance so clearance is no problem.

HR-02 has only one set of fan clips but adding a second fan is only 1-2c better cooling.

With that kind of clearance you might want to consider the True Spirit 140 £34.99
I didn't mention it before because it is 170mm tall so not as universal as HR-02. TS140 does have 2 pair of fan clips.

Thanks mate :)

I absolutely love this case to be honest :)

The cable management is so good that it doesn't even look like much is plugged in! This is how it looked when I had my two 570's in there:

I now just have a single 780, the case is completely silent apart from my CPU cooler now. I currently have 3x GT's in there and I'm going to take the one I have on the side of the case off and put the sound deadening back over the 140mm hole in the side of the case.

Cool so it looks like the TS140 is a better one than the Macho depite being smaller in size? (apart from height)

Installed now :) Temps running prime temperature test went from 98c max to 77c max :)

The drop in volume is VERY good. Exactly what I was hoping for :)

Looks like this now:

Considering taking the 120mm GT off the side panel of my case and putting it on the back of the new heatsink but I don't know if there is much point?

Cheers,

G

Given how much of an absolute ball ache it was fitting the fan to the heatsink I think I may well leave the GT in the side panel until I get a windowed one.

I have taken the GT off the side panel and put the sound deadening back in it's place and lowered my CPU voltage from 1.375 to 1.256 but it at 4GHZ, now maxing at 67c

Happy with that :)

Should I have the Fan on this like I have with it pushing air through the heatsink, or is it better to put it on the other side pulling air through?

Thanks,

G

Thanks mate :)

If I got the first option, the splitter, would it make both Fans run slower?

I have a spare plug coming off my fan controller in my case, but again that is only 3 pin :/

/edit would this work?:

I don't care about the control, happy for it to run maxed out :) Just wondered if it would power it so you've answere my question :)
