best air cooler? (for dual core)

I have just replaced my Zalman 9500 with an Si120 and Vantech Stealth fan.
My Opti 170 ran @ 41 idle and 55 load with the Z. Temps are now 33 idle and 44 load with the Si 120. Need I say more?

Is the SI120 that good? Ive got the Zalman 9500 thinking it was the best?!

Using the Zalman on a clocked dual core made my temps rise sharply (prv cpu 3700).
When I replaced the Z with the Si120 the temps dropped as described in my previous post.
Looking at the base of my zalman the contact area was not flat due to in built stresses during manufacture. But the temp drops still speak loads.

What temps are you running at?

the very best is the scythe ninja would have to purchase at alternative site as ocuk dont sell this on, but you would have to check that it would fit you board as it is BIG! also the themaltake big typhoon is ment to be good also, then finally the artic cooler pro is very good and i would say is the best price/cooling performance out there.

Got one of those. Suprisingly, the weight isn't too much of a problem, and it was relatively easy to fit. I would also think it should fit most boards, unless your ram is in a funny place.

Ive just purchased an SI-120, should be here tomorrow so another vote for that from me. I read a few reviews about it and it seemed one of the best heatsinks to get, around the same as the XP120 but a lot more compatible.

For the Zalman 9500 you need to ensure that you use both clips to tighten the HSF up.

Some forget to put the other one in so it forms a cross pattern. The trick is to slide the other one in sideways betwen the heatpipes then turn it 90degrees so it is flat and can be screwed down. The Zalman instructions fail to highlight this.

Makes a big difference temp wise as ensures maximum contact between HSF & CPU!

Its been found from CPC that The Gigabyte G-Power Pro is the best heatsink for 939 socket thats widly available. However the Arctic Cooling 64 is by far the best that available for bangs per buck. Am i right in saying its under 20 quid and only runs a cpu a few degrees higher than the 30+ quid gigabyte?

Both are, I think available from OcUK.

yea but CPC = n00bs

I am running an Opteron mono-core using the Si-120 with an AKASA silent fan, it works amazing well (as I have said again and again).

And for extreme testing I recently bought a YS-TECH FD1238 120mm beast!

Will be getting my hands on some dual cores the next few days, I expect them to run hotter, but I have no doubts the SI-120 will be up to it.

The only other heatsink that has caught my interest is the Ninja one, but it looks a bit toooo big :)

I'm using the "Scythe Ninja-PLUS Heatpipe Cooler, with 120mm fan," its very quiet and keeps it all cool. It's possible to get them for approx £35 from a competitor but best google it to fine a link imo

The Gigabyte is supposed to be noisy. I was considering one last week then found a review on silentpcreview forum which measured 72db @ full load!!
