have a budget of £50~ or less, looking for the best bang for buck cooler, Will look to keep it some years and eventually use it on a 5950X overclocked

any advice is much appreciated

Thanks

Alpenfohn Brocken 3 is steal for £30 and flat base works well with chiplet Ryzens.

Scythe Mugen 5 would be little heavier, but Intel optimized base is risk of good contact only in small area and wrong place for ocolnig cores.

(though that could be solved by "lapping" heatsink's base)

And for gaming uses likely zero sense in overclocking.
Cranking all 16 cores high enough to mathc automatic boost clocks might need LN2.

That Brocken 3 is a bargain at £30 I would be all over that

I've ordered an Eco Advance the 3 won't fit my case but taking ages to arrive

I tried a Mugen 5 and didn't feel that it performed that we'll possibly for the reason EsaT mentioned and that was only on a 3600 at stock clocks

Another option might be the arctic freezer eSports duo but it might not be enough for that CPU

What do you think about the Alpenfohn Matterhorn? It's about £50 and seems to be a pretty decent option too.

I managed to pick up ALPENFOHN olymp and an am4 kit for £40 used, hope it's decent

In my humble opinion the problem with the Mugen is the fan, which isn't particularly good at anything. It's still a darn good cooler though.

Relentless81, which model Mugen was it? Which fans did it have?

When I tried Mugen 5 with 300-1200rpm fan/s it did fine.
PCGH edition has low-speed 300-800rpm fans so runs hotter because of lower maximum airflow.

All Mugen 5 reviews I know were with stock fan and it performed step behind the best, so fan is unlikely to be the problem.
