Best Air Cooling?

I currently have a Corsair H100 but want something that can run fairly quiet when I want it too.

I've not looked at coolers for almost 2 years now I suppose, so a bit out of touch..

What's the best air cooling out there? I had a Phanteks TC14PE and rated it pretty well, is it still the best?

If so, is it worth getting a 3rd fan on it?

If you're not overclocking and the TDP of your CPU is 95W or less, the Nofan CR-95 is by far the best. It's totally silent.

i7 3820 @ 4.5GHz :p

Used to idle at 40'c but I just want a quieter setup now.. So I can leave the PC on overnight too.

I've got 2x SP120 on the Corsair H100 and with them on my ideal noise level it idles at 52'c :/

Most good air coolers will perform as well as H100 at much lower noise levels.
If you want a cooler to do both, the Silver Arrow SB-E and IB-E Extreme perform as good as others below 1300rpm / 40dBA but when pushed their TY-143 fans' 130cfm @ 2500rpm (if case can supply them cool air) will net another 5-8c at same noise level as H100.

Here is a comparison of H100 and Silver Arrow SB-E / SB-E Extreme.
jump in to 3:40 for results

Temperature is delta.

H100 . . . . . . . . 41c 2500rpm. . . . . . . . 55dBA 2
SA SB-E . . . . . . 42c 1100rpm & 1300rpm 38dBA TY-150 & TY-141
SA SB-E Extreme 34c 2500rpm. . . . . . . . 56dBA 2x TY-143

Found out why the H100 was running so hot... :D

Had it in PUSH so all that dust was between the fan and rad where I couldn't see.

lookslike its tried to suck a moggy through it:eek:

im using a sliver arrow cooler and a noctua d14,both are verygood and quiet, have two machines at 4.8ghz with temps below 80c in max stress intel burn test

Are you sure there isn't a dead cat in there ???

I think you might find poping a set of quitter fans on there in push pull will keep you nice and cool n quiet

Haha, yeah the whole PC was a bit dusty, did give it a once over with an air compressor but forgot about the rad :p going to invest in a few filters today..

I've actually just received a Phanteks TC14PE which I've now installed.. That's when I noticed all the dust on the H100 :p

you need some fan filters, i had 3 fans on my phantek for about 4 hours. The fan nearest the back exhaust was too close to it and seemed to be causing a strange turbulence noise.
I am thinking of cobbling together a shroud for my gpu as its one of these 2 fan jobs that just dumps all the heat into the case.
