hi guys i am looking to overclock my q6600 cpu.
atm i am using the intel standart cooler (lol)
which air cooler can u guys advise? i am having a p5k-e wifi board and the Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case. so which air cooler would fit in and give me the best results.

IF possible (if not also ok) it should be socket compatible dont like it to much to unscrew the socket and put the new FAN sockets on.

thanks mike

What clocks are you trying to achieve on the Q6600, if your happy with anything below 3.6Ghz then the AC7 will do you fine (that's what I have at 3.5Ghz in an antec 900) if your wanting anything over this or want temps well below the 59C I get the go for a tuniq or a tru.

cool guys, thanks for all the input!
i am planning to overclock around 3.2 GHZ
so artic cooling freezer 7 will be fine for that?
i like to keep my rig cool (the cooler the higher the chance it will last for 2-3 years :)

just one more question either CF7 or Tuniq Tower, will they be ok to keep the motherboard vertical? dotn want to break the motherboard. so i am just concerned that it might be to heavy.
the Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler looks a bit heavy.

last question: which tuniq tower you guys mean this one?

If your looking for the best cooler for noise then this is the top of the range, costs quite a bit though
Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775) £42.29 inc VAT

or iv heard these are really good
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler £32.89 inc VAT

or this is what i have and is amazing considering its price
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) £17.61 inc VAT

hope this helps :D

I don't like the AC7 because the retention method, like the stock heatsink, is poor and annoying. I'm sorry, i'd easily pay £100 for a good cooler, i'm going to look up some thermal comparisons on this because i know it doesn't come close to beating a lot of coolers...just the price.

Tuniq and Thermalrite. Get a case the size of an aircraft hangar and make sure you don't have a side panel window, so you don't have to look at the monstrousities. Though both are excellent at cooling, probably both are in the top 5 air coolers :). However i'd rather not have something the size of my case, making the case fans' airflow redundant tbfh. My cooler blows onto the rear case fan at roughly the same RPM, extracting all heat in unison. Admittedly it's a new install so can't OC it yet or really test it.

Frosty tech is a good review website in my opinion for coolers, these are the top ones it has reviewed. Not to say that it is a solid go-to, it has not reviewed all heatsinks and their testing techniques may vary to other sites. Personally chose an akasa 965 upon their review of it, cools a QX9650 at 21 idle, 29 load in an antec 900.

1 - Xigmatek HDT-S1283

Then....

Thermalright Ultra-120
3RSystem Iceage 120
Zalman CNPS9700 LED
Zerotherm BTF92 OC ed
Coolermaster Hyper 212

Im using the AC7 and for the price of it i cant really fault it.

Clocked at 3ghz at the moment and under load its in the lower 50cs which im happy with.

Only gripe is the dire fitting method, crappy screw things

For a quad you really need something that can shift a lot of heat, i'd go for a tuniq tower, thermalright ultra 120 extreme or the new Thermalright IFX-14. Don't neglet the fan(s) that exhaust all this heat from your case either. Don't worry about the weight of these coolers they fit to a back plate that takes the weight very well. Is your quad a G0?
