Best all round 19" widescreen lcd?

depends what you're going to use the screen for really. The Samsung 920N, Acer AL1916W, Hanns-G DW191D are all popular and fit the budget.

The screen will be used for everything, i.e videos, a bit of gaming, internet browsing and financial spread betting.

I originally had 2 x 17" iiyama e431s' and a 20" Widescreen Philips, however, had to sell these as I'm moving abroad in late Sept, so i'm basically on the look out for a monitor thats in between these models.

The Acer and Hanns-G are good bets then really, the Hanns-G is especially well priced. Plenty of info about it if you do a quick search :)

Price isn't too much of an issue as I'll be moving to Hong Kong where the prices of monitors are very low.

How does the Acer compare to the Viewsonic VA1912W? I had my heart set on buying the Viewsonic (it's about £107 in HK), but was a little put off that it didn't have DVI

any chance you could stretch to a 20"WS then? Would open up the choices a lot more and allow you to also move away from TN Film panels which have their restrictions :)

The following are examples of the prices in HK, to get an idea of the price in sterling just take the $ amount and divide it by 14.6 (although this will change due to the volatility of FX - foreigh exchange):

Viewsonic 17" VA702 /B LCD (850:1,8ms) HK$ 1500
Viewsonic 17" VA702 /S LCD (850:1,8ms) HK$ 1500
Viewsonic 17" VE720M LCD (700:1,8ms,***) HK$ 1590
Viewsonic 17" VP720B (DVI,500:1,8ms) HK$ 2190
Viewsonic 19" VA1912W B(16:10,DVI,850:1,***) HK$ 1590
Viewsonic 19" VA1912W S(16:10,DVI,850:1,***) HK$ 1590

I wouldn't mind a 20" again, however, there are a lot of factors to consider such as the size of the monitor (my apartment is very small - 500 sq foot), the cost...ideally don't want to spend more than GBP £180 and the Manufacturer.

not really. maybe earlier, but everyone seems to be having them working fine now. I haven't had any problems. Ah well, guess we can compare my Hanns G to your Dell in october :p

I’m building a new rig and giving my old one to my sister (I really don't want to sell it for nostalgic reasons).

My father was going to buy her an LCD to go with it but I suggested that I'd give her my Hitachi and Ill put €50 towards a new one (effectively getting a new monitor for €50). So I get a new monitor, my sister gets her own computer with a flawless Hitachi and my dad saves a few quid!

Everybody’s happy!

So would I really notice the difference between the Hitachi and the Hanns-G? The Hitachi's old but its still good - although the blurring is quite noticeable at times and its performance in dark spots is poor which irritates me.

By the way, I have a page on my website which might be useful for those with stuck pixels.

I would disagree with this though!

My basis for this is because we alone sell 250+ per week of these monitors and I know of some other places who are selling 1000+ per week just to UK customers.

This means that this monitor has to be one of the best selling models currently in the UK outselling all other models considerably.

So due to huge amount sales there is bound to be more people posting regarding issues due to the fact there is so many more of these monitors out in the market place.

OcUK has never had such a good selling monitor before as these really do fly out the door like there is no tomorrow. :)

haha, now that is a dangerous link! theres a belinia in the mix as well isnt there? seen some good reviews of it

nice points Gibbo, would you recommend the WS ahead of the 4:3 or vice versa, as i'm currently looking for a TFT myself.

Thanks.
