Hi all,

What's the best all-round laptop for under £1,000 delivered?

Primary uses are going to be using Traktor to mix music, using Excel/VBA/Access to build financial models and playing MS Flight Simulator X (and maybe some FPS games from time to time).

I need at least 500GB of storage - a SSD would be great if the budget allows.

It also needs to have a CD burner!

It needs to be at least 15" (15" or 17" would be fine). Glossy or matte screens are both fine.
And a "nice to have" would be a multi-channel soundcard (for cueing songs in Traktor through headphones).
Win 7 or Win 8 are both fine.

The main priority is getting something VERY fast and future-proof (say, approx. 6 years), with as few "weak links" as possible.

Thoughts?

I just bought an ASUS N550JK as I was looking for something similar.
I believe they exist with SSD but I need more than 128/256 on my HD.

This is a steal atm

Both come with 3 free games, a Corsair M65 Mouse and MM2000 Mouse Mat.

The GT70 has more RAM and a better CPU which will be better for music mixing/production and may also benefit MS Flight Sim X. GT70 also has more SSD space and a Blu-ray read/writer.

The GX60 has a slighty larger HDD (1TB vs 750GB in the GT70), but has less half the SSD space which evens it out. It also has a more powerful GPU, but the benefits of that may be countered by the lesser CPU and the fact it will produce more heat and have a shorter battery life. It has less RAM (8GB I believe although it doesn't state it on the store page).

Overall despite the free items you get with the GX60 I'd still go with the GT70 due to it having better components overall, especially the CPU which will benefit you far more than a slightly better GPU.
