What is the best touchscreen ultrabook alternative to the Surface Pro? The Dell XPS 12 looks nice but has a fixed keyboard. The Asus Transformer Book i7 is quite powerful but not out yet.

I have the Sony Vaio Duo 11 and its a great bit of kit - it has a slider mechanism to reveal a keyboard underneath. You can read a comparison of it against the Surface Pro on mobiletechreview (search for the video in youtube). The big plusses for me are the build quality and screen. The only gripes I have are the battery life could be better and the keyboard sometimes misses key presses. However it bundles with a decent stylus and handwriting recognition, so this is a definite alternative to keyboard input when appropriate.

Yes keyboard cannot be removed, but it doesn't add that much bulk to the tablet when not in use. I think Toshiba have a similar mechanism on their Windows 8 tablet. Other possibilities are the Acer W700 and the Samsung Ativ smart PC both of which have separate keyboard docks and run Intel Core processors.

The Samsung ATIV pro looks great. What re the different model numbers as I cannot find anything on the Samsung website?

Is this actually available here yet?
Looking into something for work and this looks to be a decent option. I am assuming being Atom powered it would also be cheaper than the i5 powered Surface Pro?

If you don't kind it being atom powered then the Hp X2 is a nice bit of kit. Fully independent tablet which has an additional battery in the keyboard dock.

Had a play on one the other day and rather liked the widescreen format.
