Best Android Handset?

Hi,

I'm a bit out of the Android loop, currently still using my T-Mobile G1. From my research it seems the HTC Desire is considered the best Android handset at present. Is this the case?

Are there any Android handsets coming out soon, which are set to better the Desire?

Thank you!

I'd probably argue the Samsung Galaxy S is the best at the moment. The only thing against it the lack of a large community modding 'scene' for it.

The Samsung Galaxy S is slightly better than the Desire from a hardware standpoint, but those are the two you should be looking at.

In short, if you like HTC Sense UI, get the Desire.

If you like flashing new ROMs and fiddling about, get the Desire.

If you aren't fussed about either of those things, get the Galaxy S.

There is nothing announced that would 'better' the Desire/GalaxyS as of yet.

Isn't the plasticky build quality of the Galaxy S a bit meh, not boding well for it's lifespan?

Love the specs, hate the fact it is a Samsung.

I actually had a go on one the other day and I didn't find any problems with its build quality.

The 'complaints' mainly stem from the fact it is VERY light, thus may feel a bit 'plasticky' but its a fairly nice feeling phone. I was certainly more impressed than I expected to be.

I thought the build quality was pretty good to be fair, it certainly looked more appealing than the brown of the desire. From what I've read, battery life on the Samsung is better also.

The Galaxy S has DNLA so you can Stream Movies to your Samsung TV or PS3 if you have them

The only thing that puts the Desire at a disadvantage is the small internal storage.

Considering the Galaxy S has 8/16GB it can make a difference. If only the Desire had even 4GB internal. :(

Other than that I love my Desire, best phone I've ever owned.

Droid 2 is in the wild in the US now, I reckon that'll be a top phone considering the originals impact :) But at present, the Galaxy S, Desire and X10 are the best 3 phones out there.
