Best Android make in 2023?

At the cheaper end, Nokia seem to get good reviews. I was looking at another Motorola to replace my G7 Power, but they seem to have hit a brick wall in terms of quality and support.

I went for a Pixel 7a due to getting a v good discount. It is a great phone, with so so battery life.

I've compiled a list of Geekbench V6 scores from 5G phones released within the last year that sell for around the same price...

2. Motorola Moto G73 released January 2023 Single-Core Score 910 Multi-Core Score 2254

Google phones are good but they are not in the same price range as the phones I listed above, especially the latest version 7.

I had a look at most of those looking for a interim mid-range phone and went with the Sony Xperia 10 V, though the SoC is a bit on the slow side and the camera a bit of a let down (which is a little downside for me), but I hate notched, edged or bevelled screens, though the Xperia does have very slight bevels it is minimal. Doesn't come loaded up with bloat and has great battery life (175h vs 133 for the Samsung and ~100 for most of the rest). I'd have rather had a 16:9 or 16:10 screen but I can live with 21:9 for now. But importantly for me has both 3.5mm and SD card support retained.

I'm hoping sometime in the next year or so someone actually makes a worthy follow up to the Galaxy Note 4, the current high end phones just aren't attractive to me at all.

I own a pixel and love it but I still think Samsung are the "apple" of android phones.... That sounds sp stupid :p

Samsung are polished and idiot proof.

Loving the Pixel 7 so far, especially for the £380 odd it cost me. Missing the zoom lens from my old Huawei P30 Pro, but the ~£300 extra the Pro would have cost me wasn't really worth it.

Scamsung don't even factor into the equation for me. Yeah they make decent hardware, but as a company they are absolute scum.

TL;DR;

18 month old £700 flagship phone in pretty much perfect physical condition suddenly loses all network connectivity, gets sent off for repair to be declined because of a barely visible manufacturing defect in the screen being classed as physical damage. Given the run around for several weeks before they admit the motherboard has failed, but they will only fix it if we pay £300 for a new screen.

Basically treat any Scamsung phone as if you've just bought it from a dodgy eBay seller because that's the sort of warranty you can expect (ironically you'd probably actually be better off with eBay's buyer protection! :p )

Just bad luck man, that could have happened with any manufacturer. You only find out how good their customer service is when you call on it. I wouldn’t hold a grudge against Samsung because of it. You’re cutting off your nose to spite your face.

That doesn't make sense? In this case I do know how good their "customer service" is, and there are plenty of other options who haven't (yet) proven themselves to be utter ****. I'd rather give someone else a chance than go with the option who I know are going to screw me over. Worst case scenario they end up just as bad, but unlike Scamsung, at least there's the possibility that they don't.

Many years ago I broke my bedroom TV by flying a toy plane into it.

Sent it off to Samsung and they repaired it FOC....

All anecdotal but yeah swings and roundabouts. I always insure my phone... Through nationwide.

My choice was a honor 5 pro from hot uk deals £688 replacing a oppo 3 neo. Only due to the better cameras, nice bit of kit .

Interesting thoughts all, thanks.

Good for thought. I'm not enamoured by Samsung and I'm slightly anti Google because of the slightly iffy antics of other areas of the company but I do admit, they seem like a very good option.

Honor do fantastic phones from reviews but they're a bit unknown to me.

Plus Google call screening, Google cameras and googles general bloat free software are all big selling points for me.
