Hi all, previously used counterspy which i was very impressed with. However it doesn't work with 64bit XP!! Any recommendations? Thanks

Spybot gets my vote, also ad-aware whilst a bit bloated these days, is something i'd use in conjunction with spybot, better for picking up all infections from various vectors. Also helps identify false positives too.

Sorry forgot to say i have hat, looking for something that sits there and monitors as well as scanning.

Monitors what??

Most antivirus can pick up intrusion vectors. Some even have modules for spyware (i think avast does).

Spybot has a resident protection that will not only make IE sane and more secure, but also protects against changes to the registry of a system.

There is a free version of Antivir Premium for six months which includes antispyware/malware. The antivirus component is excellent, though I'm not sure how good spyware component of it is. I have uninstalled Spybot which I have faithfully used for a few years now and it's excellent as changes in the registry run by the user before they're allowed if that makes any sense.
