Best Anti Virus for 2016

Never pay for AV?.. What are you smoking, that is like saying only use free games.

It's down to the user if they want to buy an AV.

As to Chrome I avoid at all costs, Google Chrome has more tracking tools then any browser I can think of.

Plenty of better alternative browsers IMHO.

Chrome OS is the Operating System! Not the browser..

You are correct, never read a post after a few beers ;) , however Chrome OS is Linux based and don't think that would be an option for most average Windows user, otherwise you could just go with any Linux based OS.

Hi wonder if someone could point me in the right direction and help with a good anti virus please. My mum has been without an anti virus for couple of weeks now and i want to go and get her one today. Any advice on what to get be grateful thanks

Personally free AV wise I would go with Bitdefender free and malwarebytes free for your mum.

Paid wise Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Avira etc...

Btw you don't say what OS she uses?

Not keen on the free ones, either use defender (or whatever is bundled, I dont keep track of the name) or pay for a reputable one as the keys can be had very cheap these days if you shop around.

Free ones have ads or sell-out to PUPs in their install process so quite the irony.

Bitdefender free has no nags or ads, more info here http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/solutions/free.html .

I've used it in the past and can confirm its nag/ad free.

One way or another, AV vendors will make money out of their snake oil.

Be it through a legitimate sale which doesn't really net 'em much these days, user data or PUPs.

One exception may be Sophos, but I haven't read the small print.
