Hey guys i need a good anti virus that will run without using much resources and won't inturupt(sp) my gaming session! I was using Windows Live Care which was absolutely brilliant, but now that has been "disscontinued". I dont mind paying either as long as it does the job and picks up even the tiniest piece of spy ware (if i have any... which i don't... atm) when i do a full system scan!

Cheers :)

Microsoft Security Essentials completely free :)

Best?

None + good practice + Monthly scanning (or whatever time-scale you want) with a product of choice should you need peace of mind.

I'm on many years of the above, nothing but Cookies so far!

bitdefender has the best detection out of ANY anti virus software

Plus the review for NOD32 is wrong.

Unlike Kaspersky and BitDefender, ESET's NOD32 only updates its virus signatures once a day. That's probably a short enough interval considering that ESET has the power to “push” updates to your computer in the instance of attack. Also, with ESET's highly effective heuristic, proactive engine, it is very likely that NOD32 will recognize malicious code before the signature is available. These two features make us more comfortable with the slightly longer update intervals than some of its competitors have.

NOD32 can and does update more than once a day. If you are happy to pay then I would go NOD32, you will barely notice it is there.

This.

The entire antivirus model is broken these days. Just use common sense with a good backup routine, the chances of you getting a virus while gaming are minuscule. [IMO]

Kaspersky:)

Utter madness!

kasperksy blocks certain games from updating unless you switch it off currently, they introduced the bug in an 8.0.0 lifespan, somewhere aound 454 hotfix, and then it has continued into 9.0.0.736.

I am sure they will eventually sort it, but currently they refuse to recognise that the issue is there.

MSE has a lower footprint.
MSE is cheaper
MSE on last detections tests seems to be rated as highly as kaspersky, which still has major slowdown issues for lots (not all) of Windows7 users.
