I have some front channel floor standing speakers that are ,8amp so don't need great power

Would like to sell my stereo amp and buy a receiver and add more speakers.

The jackpot would be a old school AV receiver that can power 5.0 and and sound great!!…....

Any recommendations?

Back in the day yamaha did a 3 channel system to add surround sound. If you can find thst 2nd hand dirt cheap might worth a go. Depends how good your amp is tbh

Edit found it..... dsp e800 . Had one myself

You could buy a used Anthem MRX 510, there's one of AVF for £750.

It will blow away anything else you can buy new for this money.

I have a Denon AVRx2300w driving 5 Tannoy Precision speakers. Even though the Amp is only worth 1/3 of 1 speaker and well under budget, it sounds really fantastic.

Its a 7.1 amp, but you can use the 2 rear channels to Bi-Amp the fronts which gives some great treble definition. "Multi Stereo" mode will completely saturate your room with sound - hard to explain, but a bit like being in a concert.

I've got the Denon 1300W model and fair enough it's £100 cheaper than the 2300W, but as far as I'm aware there are only minor differences. Anyway, the 1300W sounds noticeably worse than the (£450) Technics SUA900A amp I used to have from 20 years ago. I think the OP will have to carefully audition prospective AVRs to be sure he's getting what he wants, rather than forking out on an intro-level one and hoping for the best.

I have an Anthem MRX510. If you can find a second hand one in your budget I doubt you can find better sound quality for that price.
