As per title... I'm thinking the E6600 at the mo, so I'll be looking to o/c it a bit, but no more than 3ghz max. The DS4 looks nice - overclocking wise - but lacks an ICH8R southbridge as well as it possibly won't support upcoming quad core CPUs.

So which motherboard is considered to be the best?

EDIT: possibly the ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe by the looks of things...

I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure whether to quickly order an E6600 now since some are comming through soon, or wait until new motherboards come out.
I would probably go with the one you named, but you have to mess about with flashing the BIOS etc to get it to work with conroe, dont you?

There have been a few problems with the asus board with some older versions not supporting conroe out of the box, dont know if they have sorted this problem yet. a lot of people are rating the Gigabyte boards recently for their overclocking potential. A better selection of motherboards for conroe should be available within the next few weeks hopefully.

You have a choice between the ASUS or Gigabyte boards imo.

I just wish someone could give an opinion on the differences between the DQ6 and DS4 Gigabyte boards. The DS3/4 appears to have incredible overclocking potential, but I'm unsure whether that makes any difference once you install an E6600 or above (as without water cooling, increasing the FSB is much more limited).

I'm not sure the DQ6 is any better at o/c'ing than the DS4, but at least it has the potential for quad core support going for it. Pity the DS4 doesn't have that, as then I'd snap it up in an instant! (don't particularly care for the rest of the extras :p)

I'm waiting for boards to come out that support Crossfire at 16x on both slots, as I'll be purchasing an additional card for DX10 games later next year.
