Best backup software for over 1 million files

I got a program called AutoBackup with my Seagate FreeAgent external drive, which does the job, but it slows my computer down quite a bit.

I tried Synctoy, but it really struggles with so many files (1.1 mil). I left the computer on all night and it was still only half way through "loading data", which isn't even when it's copying stuff over.

So is there anything else I should try? My AutoBackup trial expires in 5 days, so I'd like to find a better solution before spending $30 on that.

well Robocopy will do a mirror option were it will copy or delete files over. one of the options might allow for addition only.

Robocopy from MicroSoft, its free.

Then I'd have 20,000 popup boxes asking me if I want to overwrite all the files/folders (which I don't, since I only want to add any new files/folders).

Command Line Switches.

unstopable copier ;)

copies the corrupt/damaged files or if it finds a file it cant it just auto skips it, no naggs or whines just simple 1 to 1 copies.

using xp? then try the built-in ntbackup utility found under accessories>system tools (i think). :)

It's only in XP Pro I think... but seconded! It's a top piece of software, it's a cut-down version of Backup-Exec (albeit an old version) with the scheduler ripped out. It's one of those "best-kept-XP-secrets".

It allows you to back-up the system-state too (i.e. the registry) allowing a "proper" full OS restore should you need to.
