Hi,

When I bought my last CPU the best bang for buck seemed to be the Q6600.

I was wondering what CPUs should I be looking at that are the Q6600s of this CPU generation.

Thanks :)

hi there OP. It's going to be either a 920 or a 1055t

It depends on what you're willing to spend. Both processors are excellent, 920 a quad core and 1055t a Hex core.

The 920 and the 1055t are both capable of 4ghz, Although 920s get there easier as far as I'm aware. D0 stepping 920s are capable of getting to 4ghz and generally keeping Hyperthreading which gives the 920 an advantage over the 1055t.

IPC(Instructions per clock) is higher on the 920, And so a 4ghz clock on a 920 vs a 4ghz clock on a 1055t means the 920 is technically still faster at processing, Obviously on a Hex core, You have 2 more cores to process with, So in software that takes advantage efficiently of 6 cores we'd possibly see the 1055t performing better
