What graphics card would offer the best performance for price in the Graphics Card market at the moment?

Don't really mind whether it's ATI or nVidia.

depends how much you want to spend really mate :)

for sub £100 - the 4770 / 48xx are great cards, as are the GTS250's

£100-£150 - GTX260/275 i would say

£200 - its going to be the 5850 all the way

more than £200 - 5870

If i am off the mark anyone, please feel free to correct me :)

I would include the ATI 4870/90 in the £100-150 range.

OP: Give your budget, monitor resolution and CPU details and answering the question would be a lot easier ;)

Include the 4890 into the £100-£150 price point, and you have it dead on I would say.

If the 285 gets dropped to £175-£180 it'll be a damn good VFM card. Think the 275 is slightly better than the 4890 isn't it?

edit just checked 4890 and 275 neck and neck on performance, 275 slightly cheaper.

Don;t forget the new cut down 5 series cards out soon priced at £110 and £150 to throw into that middle mix of cards. I would expect the mid range cards 4870/4890 and gtx260/275 to drop in price very soon as they are none dx11 cards and will have to compete with the 5770 etc.

I am not sure why you think the gtx275 is slightly cheaper when the cheapest gtx275 is £152.98 and the cheapest 4890 is £126.99. The 4890 at that price is only £2 more than the cheapest gtx260 which for me makes it the best bang for buck card on ocuk in the £100-£150 range.

This months PC format priced the 4890 very high too, they rated the 275 as best card for around £160 with the 4870 being the best around £100 & the 4850 being best under £100.

I read it while not fully awake so this might not be 100% accurate.

my bad, I was looking at the pricing a review site gave them both for bang for buck. I didn't then re-work it out based on lowest 4890 price here. In that case 4890 wins hands down.

So to summarise at the moment the best bang for buck (depending which price range) is

4850 for £65

4890 for £127

5850 for £198

4870x2 for £275 (or even better for £165 to £175 2nd hand)

Hmmm, no Nvidia????????????

Thanks for the responses so far. I don't have a set budget really. My monitor resolution is a 24" 1920 x 1080 and my CPU is a Q6600. Cheers.
