yo wats up everyone?

im looking to make a new build soon, something reasonably powerful that can multitask. i want it also to be able to handle the ltaest games, though maybe not at the highest settings.

anywhos i am therefore looking for a processor as to build the computer around. i currently have an old opteron 146 which to be honest is quite slow now.

im looking for recommendation on the best bank for buck cpu at the moment, or upcoming ones. im not afraid to overclock.

so what say you?

Best "bang-for-buck" is the 2160/2180 - for ~£50 you can get 3-3.2Ghz Oced

Best power chip is the E8400 - for ~£140 you can get 4-4.2Ghz Oced

Yep, gotta love my little £52 E2180, unbelievable value especially when overclocked. Runs everything I throw at it like a dream. Well impressed.

Still not as good as a duo with 4mb cache though, I would say any second hand duo with 4mb cache is best bang for buck.
It's a no brainer really you can have a 3.6 ghz capable 4mb cache for £60 2nd hand or one of those for £50-£60.

Not everyone wants 2nd hand gear though.
Expect to pay more than 50quid for a 4mb cash cpu. I sold my e6600 for well over 80quid, there is good demand. You may manage to get an e6320 or e6420 for a little less but realistically even used conroe’s are more expensive than new cache cut e21xx ones.
