Hi Guys,

I have the Asus P5K Premium/WiFi Black Pearl edition and im using the 0404 bios version.

It appears from the ' Basic Guide For Overclocking Q6600 on Asus P5K-E (and similar) Motherboards' and similar guides that there can be allot to be gained from a bios upgrade. I don't have a floppy so i'll need to do it from windows. I have two questions:
  1. I have the bios version 0404, is 0612 that much better? I know for the P5K-E users, 0602 has been reported to make a massive diff in temps / clocking.
  2. Do i use the Afudos BIOS update tool V2.36 to update from windows?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done this in ages so i apologise for any noob questions.

I use the latest one with no problems, and flash it by either putting the bios file on a usb stick or on the root of your c drive then go into the bios and start the easy flash utilty from there.

Dont do it from windows

Thanks for your advice. So you use 0612? So the EZ flash utilis ez to use, anything to know before i try? Sorry for all the questions but i'm well aware that getting a flash wrong is the quickest way of killing a board.

dead easy, just get your USB stick, stick the ROM file on there and go into EZ flash, its all self explanatory from there.

It's actually easier than using the winflash thing.

And doesn't result in you having an expensive spikey ceiling tile when you're done :)

cheers mate. just checked out your build - is it common to place 120.3 in the front like that?

Yep use 0612, and yes ez flash is easy to use just go into the bios and go to ez flash (should be on the last but one page) start it up then select the drive where you put the bios file and it will come up in the box on the right, then just press enter and it will ask you if you want to flash - just press y - dont worry if anything is wrong it says so and wont let you flash.
