I had Greenflag; they let me down massively once and I was waiting around from 1pm until 7pm. Decided to renew with RAC as they were offering their full cover for £69. Haven't used them yet but for me all these companies are the same. 99% of the time there will be no issues, but it's that one time where they end up letting you down and you'll lose all faith in them!
To be fair to Greenflag, I called them out 3 times in a year and only once they let me down. the other 2 times they were really good, and they did refund my cover (and allow it to continue, so essentially free of charge) because of their screw up that had me stranded for ages.

I had cover via Ford which tended to be AA, and they were very good. It was a full homestart etc policy.

Thing is, if you go via cashback sites it's ridiculously cheap for AA so I figure it's one of those things that you might as well have.

Been with AA just over 10 years, turned up everytime I've called them out usually under a hour.

I had similar problems with Greenflag, left me at the side of a little country lane for 5 hours in the middle of December last year.
I don't even have a car to shelter in.

Got RAC cover with the insurance on my new bike not had to use them yet though.

I've got Britannia cover through my bank account. They've been great so far (used about 5 times), they call a local recovery/mechanic rather than having their own fleet as far as I can tell but I've always been attended to in under 40 minutes.

Every year when I renew with the RAC they knock the price for the personal roadside and national recovery cover from £99 odd down to about £50, so I just stick with them since it seems like excellent value. They were fairly quick and efficient the one time I had to use them (As I'm sure a few people at the southern meet will recall.. :o).

I've used Britannia and First Call - very quick response with both as they send local guys out immediately.

Used RAC once - left me stranded for 5 hours on a Friday evening. Broke down at 6pm and finally collected at 11pm.

I went back to First Call but haven't had to use them in a few years (touch wood!).

Just get a Nationwide Flexplus account, £10/month with top tier breakdown (for your partner/wife too if you make it a joint account) along with a fortune saved in travel insurance, phone insurance, etc

Never had to use any (touch wood) but had RAC for the last few years, and just renewed.

can't complain at £29 for Roadside and Recovery (£69 -£40 Quidco cashback)

get it via my bank account - covers me, not just my car. So if i'm a passenger in someone elses car, it covers that as well.

£15 a month. Also worldwide annual travel insurance and mobile phone cover. Worth checking it all out.

I also use Autoaid for over 4 years, and yes, I've paid upfront when I've needed home assistance. To date, they have refunded me in full. One pending at the moment.

RAC here, called them out a few times and they've always been good. You always have to call them each year to get a better price though.

I've got RAC and it's great, they'll pick me up if I'm stuck, help me if it won't start (Not that this is needed) It's also on any car that i'm driving.

Didn't read the small print, they will try to charge you £80+ if you have a lowered car and it won't go on the tow thing. I always carry round my coilover adjusters in case!
