I'm moving in a week to an area that doesn't yet have Virgin Media.

I'll be moved by the 12th so need internet as soon as possible. I looked at BT and saw I could get 76mb for 26.99 a month then 36.99 a month. However they couldn't come and 'install' it til lthe 19th Dec.

I looked at Sky who have a similiar offer but paying 36.99 from the start and will 'install' by 15th.
I looked at TalkTalk but the negativity about them online put me straight off.

I've read a lot of bad things about BT but not as much about Sky.

I've only ever had NTL then Virgin, which has great speeds and never had a single problem.

Any ideas or other options to explore?

Plusnet is a good option.

However, non Virgin providers still depends on BT Openreach, who still needs to install the connection, so I don't think you can get the date moved forward.

I believe the flat i'm moving to already has the BT connection as it detected it and didn't need an activation fee. So i'm not sure what 'installation' entails as they post you the hub.

Not looked at Plusnet.

I'm used to 100mb, yet i'll be living on my own and probably never used that speed.

I went through the process on Plusnet's site and they tell me someone has to install a phoneline, then another engineer has to install the fibre. Sky or BT didn't mention any of this and as i'm moving into a rented property I can't just get stuff installed.

I am confused.

If you put in the address, and there's a line already active it'll give you the option of either installing a new line or moving the existing line but if your not getting that it might be that the line is no longer active although it also might be a generic message but you should call them to make 100% sure as an active line only requires a BTOR visit only to change the faceplate and leave a modem since the router supplied by plusnet doesn't have a VDSL modem.

Chances are any provider you go with won't be able to install until the original BT quote purely because it's BT who do the work for them.
