What are people thinking is the best broadband these days.

I'm not a fan of virgin media personally but like the way you don't need to pay for a BT landline you never use.

Anyone have any other recommendations? Sky? BT?

8Mb with no caps would be good.

girlfriend has Orange upto 8mb, gets 6.5-7mb all the time.
Dont think there ar any caps on it, within reason and she never has problems :)

Im on orange as a mobile customer and I think I looked at their broadband but they wanted me to sign another 18 month contract for getting broadband. Not sure I would want to do that...

Enta resellers, they do have caps, but are very generous, and they do no traffic shaping etc..., in on UKFSN's MAX 60 package, which gives 60gb peak time a month, and 330gb off peak a month, peak hrs are 8am till 10pm, off peak is 10pm till 8am and all weekend, excellent service, and only £30 a month, and its a monthly contract, and theres different packages as well with differnt cap amounts. :)

If you want uncapped though then your gona pay through the nose for it, £80+ a month which aint worth it, you may as well just get a capped package.

I WOULDNT recomend Virgin, but then it has the advantage over some to me becouse it has no download limits, other than that i dunno

Friend who works for Telewest/Virgin says they do limit your speed between certain hours after you've downloaded a certain amount, forgot how much but i think its 3gb for the 20mbit and 350mb for the lowest speed ones. Hours are 4pm too 11 or 12 if i remember right. I got them still though, reliable here and fast.

If you download more than 3gb on Virgin between about 4 and 11 then they cut your 20mb right down to 4mb, so set something away and give it about 5 minutes to drop 16mb. :p

Really? they dont completely cut you off though do they?

No just speed drop. However i don't think its policed heavily, might be for constant abusers. I've downloaded 3 Linux distros so far at 4gb apiece and still retain my 20mbit speed. If i was indeed slowed down then i'd have seen it drop since the first download but it was constantly over 2Mb/sec

whew, at least they dont actually cut u off :)
cosidering i only have the 4mbit internet being slowed down further isnt something i like the sound of, not that i would normally hit that limit anyway

I am with UK Online who run on the same network as Sky, just better customer service and lower pings due to them allowing interleaving to be turned off.

Highly recommend them.
