looking to replace an ancient PC (im talking 2500+ barton 1gb RAM AGP Geforce 6600gt G/C) what will give me the best bang for my buck in terms of noticeable difference. im talking a machine base unit rebuild of around £500 does not need to include case/psu. but everything else yes.

what i need it to play is the latest battlefield, and some high performance games like the new exp for F.E.A.R.

what can people recommend?

best i could think of for performance/upgrade ability/price, the motherboard is a good overclocker, and so is the CPU, RAM should be alight for overclocking aswell

What PSU you got then? (and what case?).

I have re-used older (quality) PSU's in the past but I am starting to think that a fresh build deserves a fresh PSU. . .
