Hi,

Looking to buy a laptop soon just wanted to know peoples opinion on which company has the best overall build quality.

I will probably only be looking to spend £500-£600 max and at these prices spec is usually pretty much the same, so I think I will go for the best quality I can find (i.e. decent keyboard, nice looking case etc.)

Many thanks

Nige.

seeing as many laptops as I do its hard to say which are the best, HP do some nice looking ones, as do Sony, Acer, Dell, it really is a mine field just lately with so many models, and they're all built to a price point these days as they out sell desktops by a good margin they all want to be in on the action. They all have there good and bad points, I would just go down the out of town big shops and have a feel of some and report back on models which feel nice to you. I personally think the new HP's are too shiny and a bit tacky, one of the best looking ones at the moment in my opinion is the Sony FW range.

Well the best quality you are going to get at that price is a Dell Latitude, without doubt. It's the only 'real' business machine you can get for that sort of money. The HP and Lenovo business grade machines start at rather higher prices than that for anything with a decent spec.

You do get low end machines pegged as business machines for less than £500, but they are usually more conservative looking and specced versions of the cheaper consumer grade laptops, with a 1 year warranty etc, so are not particularly good quality or indeed anything special at all.

Typical, run of the mill consumer grade laptops that you can buy in the high-street, of which there are many at this price point, quite frankly are crap, in terms of quality. Flimsy build, poor warranties, rubish after sales service if something should go wrong etc.

Many thanks for that.

Only looked on the net so far and I really like the look of the Acer's, but as you say I must go out and see some first.

I have had a Sony & Toshiba in the past and although the Toshiba was only a budget model I prefered that to the Sony which cost three times as much :/
